Minutes – Texas Democratic Women of Ellis County – May 15, 2021 Meeting
The meeting was held both in person at the Democrat HQ and by zoom. In person were Helen Brock, Lynda Begnaud, Becky Cockerham, Tina Williams and Kelly Blackburn. On zoom were Verlie McBroom, Phyllis Dunn, Vivian Gibson, Jerome Begnaud and Diana Melcher.
4:05pm President, Helen Brock welcomed all and called the meeting to order
The Pledge of Allegiance was given
4:07pm Tina Williams gave the April 17 minutes approved by unanimous consent
4:11pm Lynda Begnaud gave the Treasury report which was approved by unanimous consent
4:13pm Old Business
Helen stated the scholarship com asked to give out 4 scholarships, 1 to Global High School and 3 to Waxahachie High School. She asked for a motion to approve.
Tina Williams made the motion and Becky Cockerham seconded the motion. Approved by unanimous consent
There was a discussion regarding the Dallas Convention Center holding the migrant children. Helen Brock mentioned it would be closing down the program but no information as to where the boys would be sent.
4:16pm New Business
Helen Brock suggested we should combine Palmer, Ferris, Italy, Maypearl into one pool to give one of the four scholarships Becky asked if Milford would be included. It was referred to the Scholarship Committee for 2022.
Vivian gave the Scholarship report. The recipients of the awards were as follows:
Global High School – Melody Wilson; WHS – Briana Brice, Mariel Camargo & Kathryn Jenkins
Next month recipients of the scholarships will read their essays. They will have the option to be present or by zoom.
4:30pm Kelly Blackburn gave report on precinct chair status, how to help Chuck Beatty and preparing for 2022 elections.
Lynda Begnaud made a motion to send $200.00 to Chuck Beatty and Jerome Begnaud seconded the motion. It was approved by unanimous consent.
4:44pm Helen made a motion to close the meeting and Lynda seconded the motion.
