TDW of Ellis County – October 17, 2023 Meeting

The meeting was called to order by President Mary Lou Shipley at 6:00 p.m.  The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Meeting Minutes and Treasurer Report:

The September 19, 2023 meeting minutes were read by Kathleen Bowen.  Minutes approved.

Treasurer Mary Brooks reported a PAC account balance of $2,662.34 and a Scholarship balance of $5,237.26. ($4,085.00 is for the Emma Wilson Memorial Scholarship).

Presentation:

Carol Young and Lynda Begnaud gave a very informative presentation about the upcoming November Election Propositions.  See Summary below.

Scholarship Committee:

Vivian Gibson reported that she has been in touch with the Scholarship Committee Coordinator at Ennis High School.  She told the coordinator that TDW will be awarding 2 scholarships to 2 female graduating seniors in 2024.  The Coordinator was excited, pleased and appreciative that Ennis HS was selected for both scholarships.  The Coordinator was told one scholarship will be the Ellis County Texas Democratic Women Memorial Scholarship and the other will be the Ellis County Texas Democratic Women Scholarship.  The Coordinator was told that the memorial scholarship will be given in honor of the late Emma Wilson who was a retired Ennis ISD teacher and was a loyal and active member of TDS and the Scholarship Committed.

Upcoming Actions and Announcements:

Mary Brooks reported that 125 students registered at Red Oak and Waxahachie HS during the voter registration drive.

Mary reminded everyone of the upcoming get together at Panera Bread next Tuesday at noon.
