Minutes of Texas Democratic Women of Ellis County in person & by zoom at 4 pm on 3/19/22
We were welcomed to the meeting by the President Mary Lou Shipley.
The meeting was called to order.
In person attendants were Lynda Begnaud, Kelly Blackburn, Helen Brock, Rebecca Cockerham, Jeannettea Flores, Vivian Gibson, Marjorie & George Procter-Smith, Rob Shelton & Mary Lou Shipley; and attending by zoom were Phyllis Dunn, Carol Weisman & Jean Woods.
The pledge of allegiance was shared.
Helen Brock read the minutes from the meeting of February 19, 2022. No corrections were made.
The treasurer’s report is on-line.
We discussed the Bakeless Bakesale to be held in June as a fundraiser for our candidate funds. Tina Williams reported that the Scholarship committee has received one application for a scholarship.
Tina W. said the plans for the Spring Tea are going well. It will be at the Women’s Building at 407 W. Jefferson in Waxahachie on 4/23/22 from 2:30-4:30 pm. She has tickets for sale and flyers to be hung in appropriate windows.
Also, Tina announced the winners of the photo contest. In the adult category Marjorie Procter- Smith won first place, Becky Cockerham won second and Brandy Mayo won third place. In the youth category Izabela Imel won first place and Georgiana Procter-Smith won second place. There was no report from the Outreach Committee.
Kelly Blackburn spoke about the Senate District Convention to be held on July 14-16. Also, she mentioned the run-off from the primary election in which we must choose between Jaworski & Garza, Collier & Beckley, Kleberg & Martinez and Dudding & Vega.
New Business
Mention was made that we need someone in charge of TDWEC publicity. Susan Simmons was mentioned, there is hope she can become a member of our group.
We will have a food drive in July close to July 4 to stock the pantry at North Ellis County Outreach.
