Minutes of Texas Democratic Women of Ellis County at 6pm on 10/18/22
President Mary Lou Shipley called the meeting to order.
Attendants were Lynda & Jerome Begnaud, Mary Brooks, Helen Brock, Rebecca & J. D. Cockerham, Waynetta Dennis, Vivian Gibson, Daphne Hajovsky, Becky Kauffman, Julie Mendenhall, Dana Rowe, Mary Lou Shipley, Carol Young and Caroll Weisman.
The pledge of allegiance was shared.
Helen Brock did not read the minutes from the meeting of 9/20/2022 since they had already been posted on the internet. They were approved with no corrections.
President Mary Lou Shipley recognized new member Dana Rowe.
The treasurer’s report is on-line and Lynda Begnaud summarized it. The bank balance in the PAC account has $732.89 and the balance in the scholarship account is $2,570.69. Caroll Weisman made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report; the motion was seconded by Rebecca Cockerham and the motion was approved.
Discussion of a Christmas Party led to the decision that it would be held at the Democratic HQ on Dec. 9, 2022. The committee for the Christmas party includes Lynda Begnaud, Becky Kauffman, Caroll Weisman, Julie Mendenhall and Rebecca Cockerham.
Julie Mendenhall, chair of the Outreach Committee, reported on the success of the Baby shower to benefit Hope Health and relayed the gratitude felt by the staff at Hope Health. They are planning to come speak to us in the new year concerning their fundraising efforts for their new building and plans for growth and expansion.
New officers for 2023 have been selected and will be voted on at the November meeting. They are as follows: Pres. Mary Lou Shipley, V. P. Nancy Post, Sec. Helen Brock & Treas. Mary Brooks.
Mary Lou Shipley and Rebecca Cockerham will work as a program committee for speakers on the next year.
It was decided that a silent auction will be held in February.
Lynda Begnaud reported on the successful efforts to register students at WISD HS and Red Oak HS. Those involved were Lynda and Jerome Begnaud, Mary Brooks, Nancy Post, Jessica Drake and Vivian Gibson. At Red Oak 89 were registered to vote and 73 were at Waxahachie High School.
The next meeting will be at 6pm on Tuesday 11/15/2022 in person at Democratic HQ.
