September 15, 2026 Meeting
The meeting was called to order by President Kathryn Mossom at 6:00 p.m. with 15 members and 7 guests in attendance. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Candidate Speakers:

A representative from Amy Taylor’s State Board of Education campaign spoke about the importance of having qualified people on the State Board of Education. Amy Taylor has 16 years of teaching experience and believes that education should be nonpartisan, that curriculums should be developed by educators and that teachers deserve good pay. She stated that the upcoming curriculum changes to Social Studies has reduced references to women achievements, Martin Luther King Jr., slavery and is very biblically infused. Meeting Minutes and Treasurer Report:
The August meeting minutes are available online.
Treasurer Joanne Hunt reported a PAC account balance of $2447.34 and a Scholarship balance of $5,135.92.
Committee Reports:
Community Outreach – Julie Mendenhall
Elizabeth Hernandez from Hope Health was in attendance to accept the donated baby shower items collected for new mothers in need. TDW-EC collecting items for the annual Hope Health Baby Shower including baby diapers (sizes newborn and 1), onesies – white or patterned (sizes newborn – 3 mos.), bibs, pacifiers, thermometers, blankets and wipes. Elizabeth talked about the great work Hope Health does for our community. She was very grateful for the items collected by TDW-EC.

Deborah is working on a new member packet and is focusing on new members.

Voter Registration – Kathryn Mossom for Mary Brooks
Moving full steam ahead. Volunteers are needed to go to schools to leave voter registration applications and to stuff bags to leave at apartments. Watch for signup emails soon on ways you can help.
Nominating – Nancy Post
Nancy reported that Carol Young has accepted the Treasurer position in 2027. The Secretary position is still open.
Other Business:
Kathryn discussed ordering more “What it means to be a Democrat” cards since they were all out. Becky LeBreton made a motion to order 1500 cards for $360.00. It was seconded by Nancy Post. All ayes.
Kathryn discussed order metal name tags at a cost of $20 paid for by those who want them. (A portion will be used as a mini fundraiser.) A signup sheet was sent around for those interested.
Kathryn discussed and passed out timecards for people to keep track of their time spent volunteering from August until November 4th. Keep track of your time spent either as a poll worker, bag stuffer, post card writer and other election related activities. Send your time log to TDW_elliscounty@yahoo.com

Upcoming Actions and Announcements:
Help when you can by either working at the HQ Office, stuffing bags, block walking and where needed. It is so important to help. Watch for emails from TDW and Ellis County Democratic Party. Election Day is 50 days away!

Presentation:
Rob Shelton, Vice Chair of the Ellis County Democratic Party and SDEC Committeeman for CD6, talked about the upcoming election and the importance of getting out the vote and getting people to the polls. He said that the Democratic Party has knocked on 2800 doors and has had 3 block walks so far. He asked for more help wherever we can help – especially with bag stuffing. There have been 5500 bags stuffed so far and they need 2000 more. He said all local candidates could use financial help. Please consider giving to the local candidates. Any and all help is much needed and appreciated.
